The Answers to Some of Your Questions
We have answered a few of the common questions we get asked however, if you have something else just drop us a line on the Contact Us page.
How old do I need to be to join Godiva Explorers
If you are new to Scouting then we are able to accept you into Godiva Explorers from 13.5 years. If you are already a Scout you can do a one week a month placement with us from 13.5 years while still attending your Scout group and then you can move to Explorers when you are 14.
If you are younger than 13.5 get in touch and we can connect you with the nearest scout group with places.
Do I have to wear a uniform
The Scouts is a uniformed organisation and we are very proud of that so yes all Scouts are required to wear a uniform. By wearing a uniform you are learning important skills about maintaining and looking after a uniform as well as showing off and being proud of the unit you come from.
How much does it cost?
We charge a weekly fee which are known as Subs, this covers our nightly activities, hire of the facility we use and insurance. There will be opportunities to attend camps and additional activities which will come at a cost however the Explorers will fundraise throughout the year to assist with these costs.
Will I have to go on a waiting list
Absolutely not. Godiva Explorers has space for any young person who would like to join us.
Is Explorer Scouts just for boys
Absolutely not we are super excited to be able to welcome both boys and girls into our organisation
What will I do as an explorer
Earn badges, achieve awards and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime! Explorers are encouraged to learn by doing, so our Explorer Scout Programme is jam-packed with adventurous activities that will help develop their skills.
With the support, direction and guidance of Leaders, Explorer Scouts are encouraged to lead themselves, design their own Programme and work towards the top awards that Scouting offers.
Explorers can expect to get involved in activities such as:
• Water-based activities • Community impact projects • Hiking • Digital skills • Camping • Explorers can also take part in international activities such as the Explorer Belt, a 10–day expedition that provides them with a real understanding of a different country, its culture and way of life.
What is the Young Leaders Scheme
One of the many exciting perks of the being an Explorer Scout is the opportunity to take part in the Young Leaders' Scheme. The Young Leaders' Scheme helps Explorer Scouts develop their leadership and communication skills. As a Young Leader, Explorer Scouts will volunteer to help run a Beaver, Cub or Scout section. They will work with the Leader to plan the section’s Programme, run activities and share their Scouting skills with younger Scouts. When Explorers complete the Scheme, they receive the Young Leader Service Award which they can reference in university and job applications.
I am on a waiting list somewhere else can you help me
